Screen and display tests

Check a monitor, laptop or phone screen for dead pixels, the refresh rate it really runs at and its resolution.

Which test for which problem

  • Dead Pixel Test – you see a dot that stays black, white or colored; full-screen colors make it easy to spot.
  • Refresh Rate Test – check whether your monitor really runs at the Hz you paid for.
  • Display Info – look up your screen resolution and other details your browser reports.

How it works and a quick tip

The tests run in your browser and use only what your screen and browser report. Nothing is uploaded.

For a dead pixel check, clean the screen first, because dust looks like a faulty pixel, then view each color in a dim room at full brightness. For the refresh rate, close other heavy tabs and keep the window in the foreground, and remember that a monitor often stays at 60 Hz until you change it in your system display settings.

Run the dead pixel test on every screen you buy, ideally within the return period, since that is when a replacement is easiest. If you use more than one monitor, test each one separately and compare its Hz and resolution with the spec sheet.
