DeviceTest

About DeviceTest

DeviceTest is a free collection of online tools for checking that your hardware works. You can test a webcam before a meeting, look for dead pixels on a new monitor, measure a screen's refresh rate, check your phone's sensors, see how fast you type, and much more. Each tool has an interactive test at the top and a plain-English guide below it that explains the results and what to do if something is wrong.

Everything runs in your browser

Every test on DeviceTest runs locally in your browser. Camera and microphone streams, location coordinates, sensor readings and your typing are processed on your own device and are not uploaded to our servers. There are no accounts and nothing to install. Once a page has loaded, most tests keep working even if your connection drops. You can read the details on our privacy page.

Who it is for

  • People buying a used laptop, phone or monitor who want to check it quickly.
  • Remote workers and students who need to confirm their camera and microphone before a call.
  • Gamers comparing refresh rate, reaction time and controller input.
  • Support teams and developers who need accurate device details from a customer.
  • Anyone with a device that is acting strangely and who wants to know whether the hardware, a setting or an app is to blame.

Free and ad-supported

DeviceTest is free to use. We pay for hosting and development with advertising, shown by third-party services such as Google AdSense. We keep ads separate from the tools so they do not get in the way of a test.

Found a bug or have a suggestion?

Browsers and devices behave differently, and we cannot test every combination. If something looks wrong, or you want a tool we do not have, please tell us on the contact page. Include your browser, operating system and the test you were using, and we will look into it.
